Building Fishing Log V1: design and build notes

Every season a small crew of us fishes the Skagit River for salmon, mostly on two Brad's Wiggler lures: BW92 (purple) and BW29 (pink). The only record of which one worked was a handwritten tally.

Fishing Log V1 puts that tally online. Tap the lure you caught on, log the fish in seconds, and the whole crew sees the same table.

Features

Log a catch in one tap, and see which lure is winning.

1. Lure-first logging: Tap BW92 or BW29 and the form opens with that lure already selected.

2. One shared table: Every catch lands in a live table anyone can read, with no sign-in.

3. A live scoreboard: The BW92 vs BW29 bar counts every logged fish, so the answer is always up top.

Other lures

Log fish caught on any lure, not just the two Wigglers.

• Other link: A small link under the lure cards opens the form set to Other.

• Name the lure: The Other chip opens a field to type the lure name.

• A fair comparison: The table shows "Other", so the BW92 vs BW29 count stays clean.

UX

Fewer taps to log a fish, and fewer surprises along the way.

1. Focused pop-up form: The form opens over the page and closes with Esc or a tap outside.

2. Details on demand: Tap a row to see landed, sex, weight and notes. The table stays clean.

3. The latest 20 first: Each year opens on its 20 newest catches. View more shows the rest.

Edit and delete with confidence

• Edit in place: Change any catch from its expanded row.

• Confirm delete: A second tap confirms, instead of a browser alert the Framer preview was blocking.

• Visible errors: If a save or delete fails, you see why.

"Other" reveals the lure

"Other" is underlined in the table. Hover or tap it to see the lure name and any notes.

Date and time on iPhone

iPhone Safari's pickers overflowed the form and showed no icons. Custom fields now keep an even split, with calendar and clock icons on every device.

UI

The log now looks like part of the site, on any screen.

1. Matched to the site: Inter type, the site's grey palette, and light and dark mode.

2. Lure photo cards: White cards with real product photos. Side by side on desktop, stacked on mobile.

3. A section per year: Each year gets its own table and its own BW92 vs BW29 bar.

4. Readable dates: "Sep 25, 07:41" instead of raw database formats.

5. Phone-sized table: On phones, extra columns fold into each row's expanded view.

Data

Two seasons of history, and cleaner records going forward.

1. Species: Log Coho (default), Chum, King, Dolly or Sturgeon.

2. 2024 and 2025 history: Imported from handwritten notes. "3 silver" became three fish, and old spot names map to the preset list.

Landed cleanup

Past catches with no Landed value now show Y, matching what happened on the water.

Other improvements

• Weight shows a "lbs" suffix while you type.

• The Submit button has stronger contrast.

• The layout is left-aligned to match the rest of the site.

• Tighter spacing on phones.
