A pixel pug that follows your cursor

This site has a new resident. Move your mouse around and a tiny pixel pug will trot after it. Stop moving and it sits. Leave it long enough and it curls up for a nap.

What it is

The pug runs on Playful Pet, a Framer component by Soyeb. Out of the box it's a little neko cat that chases your cursor. The best part is it isn't stuck being a cat: give it a new sprite sheet and it becomes whatever you draw.

So I gave it a pug. Fawn coat, black mask, curly tail, and 32 tiny frames covering every move: trotting in eight directions, grooming, dozing off, and scratching at the edge of your screen.

Make your own

1. Get the component: Buy Playful Pet on the Framer Marketplace and paste its component link onto your canvas.

2. Draw your pet: Make a 256 × 128 PNG sprite sheet, 8 frames across and 4 down, each 32 × 32px. Follow the same frame order as the default cat.

3. Swap it in: Set Pet type to Custom and upload your sheet. A size of 48 to 64px shows off the detail.

4. Put it everywhere: Place it in your shared layout template, set Position to Fixed, and give it a high z-index so it walks over everything.

5. Skip touch screens: Hide it on Tablet and Phone, since there's no cursor to chase.
